This feature will evolve over time so keep checking in on our blog for more information.<\/li>\n<li>For any questions or feedback on Grow, please email <a href=\"mailto:grow.me@mediavine.com\">grow.me@mediavine.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Using artificial intelligence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/grow-me\/\">Grow<\/a> platform now has the ability to recommend personalized content to logged-in users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For anonymous (non-logged-in) users, Grow will recommend the content most likely to be consumed based on context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/grow.me-recommended-content-mockup-vertical.jpg\" alt=\"screenshot of grow.me recommended content on a phone\" class=\"wp-image-25593\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recommended-content-and-the-value-exchange\">Recommended Content and the Value Exchange<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As an audience engagement framework, the ultimate goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/grow-me-first-party-data-and-the-future-of-advertising\/\">Grow<\/a> is to provide a personalized browsing experience to your readers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A better browsing experience is the linchpin of what we call the value exchange \u2014 what we believe will encourage users to authenticate and consent to personalized content and advertisements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, Mediavine developed a personalized content recommendation engine that elevates the browsing experience for Grow users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Recommended Content?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As opposed to <em>related content<\/em>, which is content that&#8217;s similar to the current post&#8217;s topic (and is a common feature on many sites, often shown at the end of an article), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/recommended-vs-related-content\/\">recommended content<\/a> is displayed to the reader based specifically on their browsing activity and is intended to match their interests to encourage further exploration on the site, rather than just show more content on the same subject.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without a recommendation engine, we couldn\u2019t deliver this personalized content and improved browsing experience that users expect before logging in and ultimately providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/first-party-data-grow-me\/\">first-party data<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I could spend the next 30 minutes geeking out over machine learning and how our recommendation engine works, but I&#8217;ll stick to the first feature powered by this technology: <strong>Recommended Content<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/man-using-smartphone-1168-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"man using a smartphone outside\" class=\"wp-image-23025\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-introducing-the-grow-recommended-content-widgets\">Introducing the Grow Recommended Content Widgets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial way we\u2019re deploying the power of this personalized content recommendation engine is via a series of three widgets that will provide recommended content to readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a user is logged in, the widgets will display content from your site that a user is most likely to read based on what they\u2019ve favorited, shared and clicked on from other recommendation widgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a user is browsing anonymously, or is logged out, we\u2019ll use an engine similar to how Netflix recommends content \u2014 showing them content that they\u2019ll most likely want to see based on the behavior of other users who read the same article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where will these widgets appear? That\u2019s up to you, via the Grow settings in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/mediavine-dashboard-settings\/\">Mediavine Dashboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/recommended-content-1024x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25584\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>To enable these settings, you will first need to enable Grow.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-customize-grow-settings-in-the-mediavine-dashboard\">Customize Grow Settings in the Grow Publisher Portal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Grow Publisher Portal gives you a lot of control over the Grow experience on your site. You can easily change your brand colors, adjust social networks, set minimum display counts, elect to use Grow in your native search and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even more exciting? This now enables Mediavine to launch bigger features like these Recommended Content Widgets, which allow you to choose one of our three introductory placements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/top-bar-recommended-content-1024x579.png\" alt=\"the header carousel of grow.me\" class=\"wp-image-25585\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Header Carousel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-header-carousel\">1. <strong>Header Carousel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve likely seen similar units, but we\u2019re launching a Header Carousel that will allow users to flick through their recommended content anytime they scroll up on your website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a user scrolls back up to look for something new, the Header Carousel will slide down, revealing new content for readers to consume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/end-recommended-content-1024x579.png\" alt=\"the in line widget of grow.me\" class=\"wp-image-25588\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Inline Content<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-inline-content\">2. <strong>Inline Content<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that one of the most engaging spots on your site is within the content itself, and so it should be no surprise that this is also the location for our best-performing content recommendation widget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can now opt-in to enable the Inline Widget, which automatically places itself in a desirable location within your content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will appear low enough within the content to make sure users have already consumed the bulk of the content \u2014 but hopefully before they leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re already seeing great conversions with this placement and strongly recommend switching it on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/sidebar-recommended-content-1024x579.png\" alt=\"the sidebar widget of the recommended content\" class=\"wp-image-25586\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-sidebar-widget\">3. <strong>Sidebar Widget<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We definitely recommend you keep a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/rethinking-the-sidebar-less-is-more-for-rpm-ux-alike\/\">short sidebar<\/a> to ensure that your sticky sidebar ad unit sees optimal performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also generally recommend running things like About Us, Search and Recommended\/Top Content widgets in that space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of right now, Grow can help you power the latter by offering a Recommended\/Top Content solution right in your sidebar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/optimize-ads-for-desktop-pagespeed\/\">desktop traffic<\/a> is generally a smaller percentage of your overall traffic, it&#8217;s the most valuable, and we see the sidebar widget as a good addition to the Header and Inline Content Recommendation Widgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/woman-smartphone-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8439\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-more-coming-soon\"><strong>More Coming Soon<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that the Recommended Content feature is new, and like so much of Grow, relies on your feedback and testing to improve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will also take some time for the Recommended Content engine to learn your site, so don&#8217;t judge the initial recommendations too harshly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we\u2019re seeing great initial results from these three layout options, this is mostly about implementing the framework for the Recommendation Engine powering these widgets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With your help and based on your ongoing experiences with them, the actual widgets and placements will evolve over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please consider enabling them today.
